Gloria Palermo, Cuban and Sicilian mezzo-soprano, is recognized by her amber tone and melismatic agility which shines in the baroque, bel canto, and contemporary repertoire. Audiences are captivated by her emotional resonance and dynamic interpretations as she makes her mark on the opera world.
Gloria recently completed her Artist Diploma at CU Boulder’s Eklund Opera Program. During her time there, she delivered captivating performances in several roles, including the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Flora in La traviata, and Lady With A Hat Box in Postcard from Morocco.
In 2023 Gloria had the honor of workshopping Tom Cipullo’s new opera, The Calling, at CU’s New Opera Workshop, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to contemporary works. Additionally, she earned 2nd place in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition, further establishing her as a rising star in the opera scene.
In November 2022, Gloria was awarded the Beverly Sears Grant at CU Boulder for her thesis recital, where she performed John Harbison's Mirabai Songs with a full chamber ensemble. That same year, she was an Apprentice Artist the Santa Fe Opera.
Gloria’s highlighted accomplishments of 2021 include receiving the Encouragement Award for the Southeast Region at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. Gloria also sang the roles of Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, and Mercédès in Carmen with Opera Orlando, where she was a Studio Artist for 2 years.
In addition to her performance career, Gloria is a dedicated and passionate voice teacher. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes a healthy vocal technique and fostering each student's unique sound. Her students appreciate her personalized approach, attention to detail, and commitment to their vocal development and success.
Gloria holds a Master’s in Music from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s in Music from Rice University. She has received additional training at the Tanglewood Music Festival and the Aspen Music Festival.
