Gloria Palermo, mezzo soprano, is from Cocoa, Florida and of Cuban and Sicilian descent. Recognized for her amber tone and melismatic agility, she shines in the baroque and contemporary repertoire. During the summer of 2022 Gloria was an apprentice artist at the Santa Fe Opera. This fall Gloria returns to CU Boulder’s Eklund Opera Program to complete her Artist Diploma. Gloria was awarded the Beverly Sears Grant Fund to perform John Harbison’s Mirabai Songs with chamber orchestra this October, 2022. In the spring of 2023 Gloria will sing the title role in Massenet’s Cendrillon. Other roles performed at CU include Flora in La traviata and Lady With A Hat Box in Postcard from Morocco. In 2021 Gloria received the Encouragement Award for the Southeast Region at the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. Prior to attending CU, Gloria completed two seasons with Opera Orlando as a Studio Artist, where she sang the roles of Hansel (Hansel and Gretel), Mercédès (Carmen), Ida (Die Fledermaus), and Wowkle (Girl of the Golden West). Other roles performed include Bradamante (Alcina), Béatrice (Béatrice et Bénédict) and La Badessa (Suor Angelica). Gloria holds a Master’s in Music from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s in music from Rice University. She has received additional training at the Tanglewood Music Festival and the Aspen Music Festival.
